Phyllis is a Partner of JPWALL, based in Singapore, and has been with the firm since 2008. Phyllis manages projects involving valuation of insurance liabilities, pricing, stress testing, capital modeling, financial projections, appraisal valuations, enterprise risk management, actuarial training and reinsurance optimization.
Phyllis has had experience in direct insurance, reinsurance and consulting. She started her actuarial career on the "other side" with a life reinsurer, Cologne Reinsurance Company, before switching to focus on general insurance with the General Re Corporation in the USA, where she was a pricing actuary. She was involved in various pricing research in loss trends and pricing techniques, with particular focus on Medical Malpractice.
Phyllis started consulting after moving back to Singapore in 2004 and became the signing actuary for various insurers in Singapore and Malaysia. She pioneered valuation and financial projection models, and actuarial training programmes for new actuarial departments in insurance companies.
Phyllis joined the regional actuarial team in MSIG, and was instrumental in integrating the valuation processes of new subsidiaries.
At JPWALL, Phyllis was key in building up the client base in Singapore. She led the development of the reinsurance optimization, stress testing and financial projection models. She continues to mentor younger actuaries and analysts in the Company as she works closely with clients to provide comprehensive actuarial advice besides the statutory requirements.
Phyllis received a Bachelor of Business specializing in Actuarial Science. She is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and the Singapore Actuarial Society.
Outside of work, she coaches children and teenagers in public speaking and leadership skills as a volunteer with the Institute for Cultural Communicators. She is passionate about healthy living and natural remedies, and tries to stay creative by crafting beautiful things, sewing, cooking and baking.
